Buying Your First Home
Great advice for first time house buyers in Daphne and Spanish Fort Alabama!
It's been a few years (well, decades really) but I still remember buying our first home. Buying and selling houses is old hat to me now, but there was a time when I was a newbie. And I still remember the jitters I had on that first purchase.
Am I making a mistake? I have no idea what I am doing! What if I lose my job and can't pay the mortgage? These were just some of the questions running through my mind at the time.
Then there was the complexity of the process. The termite inspection. The mortgage application. Terms that I had never heard like escrow, APR and pre-paids.
I was a basket case. But I was one of the fortunate ones. I had a good real estate agent who held our hands through the entire process. What I didn't know, she knew. I didn't have to worry about what inspection had to be done when or what to put on what paperwork.
That's the purpose of using a good real estate agent. It is their business to know what needs to be done and make the process as smooth as possible.
How do you know if you have a "good" agent? I would start by looking at their training. At Exit Realty Gulf Shores we go through extensive training well beyond just the basics required to get a license.
Next I would look at the team behind the agent. Each agent at Exit Realty Gulf Shores is supported by a team of dedicated people who handle a variety of tasks to make the sales agent the best they can be. Plus, the agents support each other.
Finally, I would make sure that the agent was properly connected. Real estate sells through the network of the agent. At Exit Realty Gulf Shores all our agents are members of National Association of REALTORS, the Alabama Association of REALTORS and the Baldwin County Association of REALTORS. We are also part of the Baldwin County Multiple Listing Service (MLS).
